Your First Visit

Our office, as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, recommends that your child visit the dentist by his/her first birthday. You can make the first visit to the dentist enjoyable and positive. Your child should be informed of the visit and told that the dentist and staff will explain all procedures and answer any questions.

We encourage you to keep this explanation simple and not make a “big deal” about it.Please refrain from using words that might cause unnecessary fear, such as “needle”, “shot”, “pull”, “drill”, or “hurt". Our office uses its own vocabulary of carefully chosen words that convey an accurate message, but avoid evoking fear or anxiety.

As the parent, you are free to accompany the child through any procedure you wish! We have seen many parents have a beneficial impact on the visit by acting as facilitators.
